Kittens under three months old should not be exposed to catnip. Catnip is not a necessity for cats; it can help them stay alert when they are not feeling well and has a certain appetite-stimulating effect. However, exposing a three-month-old kitten to catnip can be harmful to their nervous system and overall health. Generally, catnip should only be given to kittens that are eight months or older.
The effects of catnip:
1. Relieve the cat's anxiety and help it relax and calm down.
2. Catnip contains peppermint essential oil, which can soothe the throat.
3. Catnip also has an inhibitory effect on certain viruses.
How to use catnip:
1. Chop the catnip, put it in a pot, add water, bring to a boil, and let it cool before feeding it to your cat.
2. Sprinkle catnip on the scratching post for your cat to play with.
