If a cat is making pitiful cries, it's very likely that it has reached sexual maturity and entered its heat cycle. At this time, a cat's personality will change, and the female cat's cries will be particularly intense. Kittens generally reach sexual maturity around 6 months old. If your cat is this age and is making pitiful cries, it's almost certainly in heat. 
For cats in heat, owners can find a suitable mate for them to breed. If the owner does not intend to breed the cat, they should have it spayed or neutered, or give the cat medication to calm it down.
If a cat is making pitiful cries but is not in heat, the owner should check the cat for injuries. If it has a fracture or other serious injury, the owner should take the cat to a veterinary hospital for treatment immediately.
