British Shorthair cats are one of the most widely kept pet cats, not only because of their adorable chubby faces, but also because of their gentle and calm temperament, their friendliness towards people, and their inheritance of the hardworking spirit of their ancestors. They are not particularly demanding in terms of living environment and are very easy to care for. However, this does not mean that owners can treat them carelessly. There are still some things to keep in mind when raising them. Let's take a look at some tips for choosing their supplies.
1. Cat food bowl. Food and water bowls are essential for cat owners. Cats are usually very sensitive to their food and water, and it's best not to change their food and water bowls throughout their lives. Some cats may refuse to eat or experience indigestion after their food bowl is changed. Therefore, it's important to choose sturdy, durable bowls with sufficient capacity from the beginning. When choosing materials, pay attention to the sturdiness, the thick bottom, and the blunt, thick edges of the bowl.
British Shorthairs have short noses and round, flat faces, so plates are the best choice for their food. Their large, flat faces make it difficult for them to eat from small bowls, and plates will make them feel more comfortable and prevent them from swallowing too much air and causing bloating.
2. Litter Box. A litter box is also an essential item for cat owners. Litter boxes generally come in two types: roof-shaped and bowl-shaped. Bowl-shaped litter boxes are more common now because they are cheaper. Roof-shaped litter boxes are enclosed, aesthetically pleasing, and don't emit much odor, making it less likely for the cat to escape; however, they are more expensive. In summer, because of their enclosed design, roof-shaped litter boxes can have a strong odor inside, which clean-loving British Shorthairs may find unpleasant and thus defecate elsewhere. As the owner, you will need to scoop the litter box more frequently.
You should also pay attention to the choice of cat litter, because British Shorthairs are prone to dust allergies due to their short noses. Therefore, you must choose cat litter that produces less dust and is of good quality.
3. Comb. A must-have for British Shorthairs. Many people think that British Shorthairs are short-haired cats and don't need much or no brushing, but this is a misconception. British Shorthairs have medium-length fur, not short fur close to their skin. Regular brushing is essential. It's best to have a pet-specific comb with medium-tooth spacing, and occasionally use a rubber brush or metal pin brush to massage them; they will enjoy it.
For the health of your British Shorthair, please be careful when choosing cat supplies.
