Six developmental stages of a cat: Which stage is your cat in?

Cats grow at a different rate than humans.

The average lifespan of a cat is only a dozen years or so.

What stages will they go through in the next ten years or so?

Let's take a look.

猫咪的六个成长阶段:你的猫咪处于哪个阶段?

Kitten stage (0-6 months)

The kittenhood period is the most vulnerable time in a kitten's life. Newborn kittens need their mother's care, a warm environment, and sufficient nutrition to ensure their healthy growth. During this stage, owners need to provide kittens with easily digestible food and administer regular vaccinations. After a month, kittens begin to explore the world little by little with their mother, full of curiosity about everything, excitedly chasing after flying insects.

Adolescence (7 months - 2 years)

Kittens in their adolescence are highly curious, active, and begin learning hunting techniques and forming friendships with other cats. During this stage, owners need to provide ample toys and play space to satisfy their curiosity and cultivate good behavioral habits. This is also a crucial period for personality development, so it's best to begin some obedience training, using treats as rewards.

Adolescence (2-5 years old)

Young cats are robust and energetic. They have already mastered hunting skills. During this stage, owners need to provide their cats with ample nutrition, regularly groom their fur, and keep the indoor and outdoor environment clean. When left home alone, cats will sit by the window or on the balcony sunbathing, hoping their owners will come home. The cat seems to be thinking, "I hope my owner will bring me delicious food and not mind that I've gotten fat."

Middle age (5-10 years old)

Middle-aged cats gradually become more mature and stable, no longer as active as they were in their youth. They still have plenty of energy, but they begin to enjoy life and the company of their owners. During this stage, owners need to pay attention to their cat's health, have regular checkups, and promptly detect and treat any potential illnesses. The cat might be thinking, "Am I getting old? I hope my owner can spend more time with me. I'm being very obedient now and not causing trouble."

Old age (10-15 years old)

As cats age, their bodies gradually deteriorate and their activity levels decrease. They may require more care and attention, and pet owners should take their cats to the vet regularly for checkups to fully understand their health condition. Due to the decline in bodily functions, cats in their senior years may also experience a decrease in appetite. Pet owners can offer them tasty treats, choosing easily digestible and absorbable options, mixed into their water to increase their appetite.

Advanced age (15 years and older)

Cats over 15 years old have a very long lifespan; very few cats reach this age. Their bodily functions decline, they lose teeth, their fur turns white, and they move slowly. They sleep most of the time and need to go to the vet more frequently. Their lives are entering their final stages, and being able to stay by their owners' side is probably their greatest wish.
