Catnip is harmless to cats. It has a mild calming effect, and when fed correctly, it can alleviate anxiety and help cats relax. Catnip can also promote digestion and relieve bloating. Cats sensitive to catnip will grab it, rub it, roll around in it, and some will even meow, growl, purr, and drool for a few minutes before suddenly losing interest and walking away.
Precautions for cats consuming catnip:
1. If catnip is used on cats too frequently, it will lose its effectiveness. Therefore, catnip should be used less than once a week.
2. Cats that are sick, weak, or pregnant should not eat catnip.
3. If you have multiple cats at home, you should be more careful when using catnip. Try not to give it to the cats, or separate them before giving it to each cat individually, to prevent the cats from getting excited and fighting with each other, which could cause injury.
