If your cat is overweight, it needs to lose weight. However, you can't rely on a diet plan; you need a serious, almost drastic approach. Feed it less, let it defecate more, ignore its pleading eyes as it looks at food, and persevere—only then will it lose weight. Even though diet plans mainly consist of vegetables and fruits, eating too much will still lead to weight gain.
1. Reduce your cat's daily food intake by 1/4. Overweight cats have enlarged stomachs, so a planned diet is essential. A typical adult cat's daily food intake is one or two 50 grams of cat food. Do not exceed this limit. If you are used to leaving cat food anywhere for them to eat freely and don't usually encourage them to eat, it's best to switch to two or three meals a day. The amount of meat should also be controlled.
2. Divide the cat's daily food ration into several cat food bowls and place them in various locations around the house, forcing the cat to walk more before it can eat until its belly is full.
3. Place the cat's food bowl on a table or small cabinet (about the same height as the table), forcing the cat to jump to reach it. On Sunday morning, I put the cat's food bowl on the kitchen counter, but Fangfang was too lazy to jump. She didn't eat anything all morning and cried loudly at noon, which startled her mother. The next morning, I put the food bowl on the kitchen counter again, and Fangfang hesitated for a long time before finally taking a deep breath and jumping up.
4. If possible, consider feeding your cat a weight-loss cat food. Weight-loss cat food contains more fiber and less fat, which means it reduces the calories your cat needs.
5. Give your cat time to transition to new cat food. First, remove 1/3 of the old cat food and replace it with the new cat food, mixing the new cat food into the old cat food. After a week, reduce the new cat food by 1/3 and the old cat food by 1/3, gradually replacing all the cat food with the new cat food.
6. Premium canned food has a higher calorie content than regular canned food. Therefore, if you are preparing to switch from regular canned food to premium canned food, you need to appropriately reduce the amount of canned food you feed.
If your cat is overweight, it needs to lose weight. However, you can't rely on a diet plan; you need a serious, almost drastic approach. Feed it less, let it urinate more, ignore its pleading eyes as it looks at food, and persevere—that's how you help it lose weight. While diet plans mainly consist of vegetables and fruits, overfeeding can still lead to weight gain. You need to change its habit of eating regular food, and especially avoid the "you take a bite, I take a bite" feeding method; instead, use measured portions.
