Why do cats keep scratching their ears?
I. Common Reasons Why Cats Scratch Their Ears
1. Ear mite infection: If a cat's ears are infected with mites, it will cause itching in the cat's ears, which will cause the cat to scratch its ears. In severe cases, it may even cause ear hematoma.
2. Excessive earwax: When dust gets into a cat's ears or the owner doesn't clean the ears regularly, excessive earwax buildup can cause the cat to scratch its ears.
3. Fleas: Fleas can cause itching all over an animal's body. Fleas especially like to feed on the skin of the eardrum, which can irritate a cat and cause it to scratch its ears.
4. Otitis externa: When a cat has otitis externa, it will feel itchy or painful in its ears, so it will often shake its head or scratch its ears, which may also lead to ear hematoma.
5. Allergies: If a cat accidentally ingests food that contains allergens or comes into contact with certain allergens, it can also cause its ears to itch, leading to scratching. 
II. How to deal with a cat scratching its ears
1. If the cat has ear mites or parasites, the owner can first wrap the cat in a towel to prevent it from struggling and scratching itself. Then, use a cotton ball soaked in ear cleaning fluid to apply it to the cat's ear canal, wait a while, and then wipe the ear canal clean with a clean cotton ball. After cleaning the cat's ears, the owner should also put a few drops of ear cleaning solution into the ears to help maintain ear canal hygiene.
2. If the cat's ears have too much earwax, the solution is much simpler! The owner simply needs to check the cat's ears regularly for earwax and remove it with a cotton swab.
3. If the cat is scratching its ears due to otitis externa, then you need to put a few drops of cat-specific ear cleaning solution on the inside of the ear flap, moisten a cotton swab to thoroughly remove earwax and exudate, and then dry the ear canal with dry cotton.
4. If the cat is scratching its ears due to an allergen, the owner needs to determine whether the allergy is caused by food or an object. Then, change the food or remove the object from the cat's reach. Note: If the cat has allergic otitis media, it will require treatment with antibiotics, steroids, and antifungal agents.
