When describing someone as a glutton, we often call them a "little glutton," which shows that pet cats are indeed very fond of food. And when it comes to food for their cats, owners are never stingy with their wallets. Besides cat food, cats are also interested in the food their owners eat, wanting to "mooch" some. Many cat owners might not be able to resist their cat's pitiful eyes and will feed them. Little do they know that this practice is actually harmful to the cat, and we should refuse to let cats try to eat for free.
Cats require completely different nutrients than humans. Eating human food can lead to deficiencies in certain trace elements, affecting their health. Furthermore, human food is high in salt and oil, which can cause cats to experience hair loss, diarrhea, and obesity if consumed regularly. High-salt foods can also cause serious kidney disease in cats. If your cat is begging for food, you can try the following methods:
Establish a feeding routine
Cats are animals that don't like change and prefer to eat at fixed intervals. Although they don't have clocks, they have their own biological clock and know when it's time to eat.
Feed the cat before meals
Feed your cat before you sit down to eat: ideally, if your cat is already full, it may not become anxious and beg you for food.
Do not disturb each other
Feed your cat in another room, preferably one with a door; let the cat start eating, then close the door behind you; this method of not disturbing each other will make you both happy.
Establish rules
Some cats might smell leftover food on the table and tentatively ask their owners for some. In this case, you can offer them some of their favorite treats, but remember to put the treats in their food bowl. After a period of training, the cat will accept this new rule.
While it's adorable to see cats begging for food, owners must be firm and never feed them human food. The cat might try even more to get your attention and get food, but for the cat's health, you must reluctantly refuse. Over time, the cat's begging behavior will gradually decrease, and it will start eating its own food.
