All Scottish Fold cats exhibit abnormal ossification of the cartilage, manifesting to varying degrees in areas such as the tail, ankles, and knees. In this case, calcium supplementation not only provides no benefit but may also cause cartilage calcification, worsening the condition.
However, do not intentionally reduce the calcium content in your Scottish Fold's food. As long as you don't blindly supplement your Scottish Fold's diet with calcium, it's fine. Many owners believe that calcium supplements help with bone diseases in Scottish Folds, but this is a completely wrong idea.
2. Scottish Fold cats should have limited salt intake. While most cats also consume little salt, this doesn't mean they can't eat it at all. Excessive salt intake can be detrimental to cats, especially Scottish Folds, as it increases the burden on their hearts. Some Scottish Folds have congenital heart disease, which is why they tend to be quieter than other cats; their hearts can't handle exercise. All Scottish Fold cats need to protect their hearts, for example, by avoiding foods high in salt.
