It's normal for cats to have some bad habits, since we can't possibly spend as much time training them as we do dogs. It's a very difficult and thankless task. It's not that cats aren't smart, but rather that their personalities make them challenging to train.
1. Overly sensitive to strangers and unfamiliar things
Most cats are very shy and will panic and run away or scratch things if they sense anything unusual or an unfamiliar person. They dislike changes in their lives and prefer a stable routine. However, this behavior tends to improve once they realize that the objects they encounter are not malicious.
2. Cats drink water indiscriminately.
Cats don't actually drink much water, and even if we offer them water, they might not drink it on their own. However, some cats will drink toilet water or lick water from the bathroom floor. This behavior is both bad and unhygienic, as germs can easily enter the cat's body through this unclean water. Therefore, we should try to stop this behavior.
3. Do not defecate in the litter box.
Cat owners are well aware of the strong odor of cat excrement; both cat urine and feces smell much stronger than dog waste. If a cat doesn't use the litter box, the odor will inevitably permeate the entire room. Therefore, we need to first identify the possible reasons for this problem. Common reasons a cat might refuse to use the litter box include not cleaning it regularly, using poor-quality litter, or a noisy surrounding environment.
4. Enjoys destroying furniture
Sofas and bookshelves are common objects that cats can't escape their claws, which is the main reason why many people are afraid to keep cats. Because of their nature, they always have the behavior of sharpening their claws, so you should pay attention to trimming their nails.
5. They make louder noises when in heat.
When cats are in heat, female cats will start making sounds that sound like a baby crying in the middle of the night, which may cause conflicts between neighbors, while male cats will start urinating indiscriminately, which is very annoying.
6. Kittens are very curious.
Kittens that have just been weaned are very active and curious. They want to touch everything they see, or they run around and get easily frightened. They are very sensitive and run around the house all day long.
7. Shedding problem
Whether long-haired or short-haired, shedding is a major drawback for cats. They shed frequently, and the shedding becomes even more severe during seasonal shedding. To mitigate this issue, try to brush your cat's fur daily.
8. Cats are more prone to being picky eaters.
Cats are relatively prone to being picky eaters because their interest in their original food decreases significantly when they encounter food that tastes better than before. Therefore, cat owners should be careful not to feed their cats treats or other foods too frequently.
9. Easily breaks fragile items
Unlike dogs, cats can easily jump to high places, so unless food is hidden or locked away, it's likely to be taken by them. Vases placed on tables or high places are also easy targets for their prey.
