The Australian Fog Cat is a breed developed by Dr. Trussat in New South Wales. The breed was initially created with the intention of producing a cat that loves its home, life, and its owner, rather than one that always appears aloof. This breed has half Burmese cat blood, one-quarter Abyssinian cat blood, and one-quarter tabby cat blood, combining the characteristics and advantages of various cat breeds to create the Australian Fog Cat. For a long time, the Fog Cat was recognized and certified, but its high price deterred many potential owners.

The Australian Fog Cat was originally called the Spotted Fog Cat because of the tiny spots on its fur. These spots take about a year to fully develop, and the fine stripes create a misty, hazy effect, making its fur more even and soft. This characteristic is relatively uncommon in other cat breeds, hence the official name "Australian Fog Cat." Currently, six color variations of this distinctive misty coat are recognized. Some color variations even have unique physical characteristics, making them very unique and interesting cats. In addition, they are playful and lively, and can be as protective of their families as dogs, bringing endless joy to any household. When participating in cat shows, the more docile the temperament, the higher the rating. However, this breed generally has an innate love for their home!

The markings of the Australian fog cat aren't actually a single, isolated pattern. It's a combination of herringbone and classic markings, broken down into smaller dots by other genes. The herringbone pattern breaks into smaller dots, creating the most common spotted pattern, while the classic markings break into larger polka dots, resulting in the rosette pattern commonly seen in Bengal. This explains why there are also clouded leopards and marbled patterns in Bengal; they are simply classic markings.

Australian Fog Cats easily bond with children and puppies, and their warm coat colors are simply adorable! However, Fog Cats are quite shy and need plenty of space to move around and their owner's attention. They need a lot of time to cuddle with their owners, so it seems they need a patient owner!

However, it's worth noting that Australia is a country severely affected by cats. After feral cats "immigrated," they had no natural predators or competitors, leading to a continuous proliferation and a serious threat to the survival of native animals. Therefore, the Australian government had to enact relevant laws to address the feral cat problem. Considering this, it's truly remarkable that the Australian fog cat has survived and become a popular pet.
