Can cats eat pork?
Cats can eat pork, but it must be cooked thoroughly before feeding it to them, as raw pork may contain many parasites and bacteria. There is no data or evidence to support the claim that cats cannot eat pork. Pork is less commonly used in pet food because its nutritional quality is lower compared to other cat foods.
Cats can eat pork. Pork is rich in protein, vitamins, and iron, which can enhance a cat's energy, improve anemia, and maintain a healthy digestive system. However, it must be thoroughly cooked before feeding it to cats, as raw pork may contain parasites and bacteria. When feeding your cat pork, choose lean cuts from the leg.
While cats can eat pork, it's rarely used in pet food because its nutritional quality is lower compared to other cat foods. Pork has a homogeneous protein content of 13.2% and a high fat content of 37%. Obtaining high protein levels from other meats is much easier than from pork, so pork is generally not a primary source of protein in a cat's diet.
Pork is also high in fat. The NRC has a safe upper limit for the daily fat intake of cats. Specifically, the upper limit for total fat intake is 8.25g per 100kcal of metabolic energy. Therefore, it is best to control the amount of pork you feed your cat and not give it too much.
