It's not necessarily true that cats are smarter than dogs. Cats and dogs express their love for their owners in different ways, so it's impossible to say which is smarter in isolation. People often think dogs are smarter because they are more emotionally expressive and obedient. With proper training, dogs can understand commands and perform designated actions.
Furthermore, even after being domesticated, cats' lifestyles haven't changed much, and they possess strong survival skills even when separated from humans in the wild. Therefore, unlike dogs, cats don't need to adapt to human society to a high degree. On the contrary, humans have to cater to the needs of cats.
