There are many flowers that cats cannot smell, including lilies, daffodils, poppies, evergreen plants, maidenhair ferns, spider lilies, lilies of the valley, and oleanders. All parts of a lily are extremely dangerous to cats; even just smelling the fragrance or ingesting a small amount of pollen can cause severe poisoning reactions such as vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite, and ultimately, acute kidney failure.

Some plants contain toxic substances such as thymol, which can damage a cat's digestive system if ingested, and in severe cases, may be fatal. They also contain limonene, which is toxic to cats. Their strong aroma is too irritating for cats and may cause discomfort or poisoning. Families with cats should be especially careful when choosing indoor plants, avoiding those harmful to cats and ensuring that cats cannot access toxic outdoor plants.
