Kneading is a normal behavior in cats. It usually refers to kittens gently pressing their mother's nipples with their front paws while nursing to stimulate the mother to produce more milk. This behavior begins in the first few days after kittens are born and continues until they learn to forage for themselves.

Cats knead their kittens out of a natural instinct. In the wild, kittens need a lot of nutrition to support their growth and development. Therefore, after giving birth, the kittens knead the mother cat's nipples to stimulate the mother to produce more milk, thus providing her with more nutrients.
