Precautions for giving medication to cats:
1. When feeding your cat, always treat the symptoms correctly and never give them random medications. Many owners, when their cats get sick, will prescribe human medications, which is a serious mistake. Always take your cat to a professional pet store or veterinary hospital for a checkup. Only under the guidance of a veterinarian will your cat receive the correct medication; proper administration is crucial for effectiveness. Do not change the timing or dosage of medication without consulting a veterinarian, and do not delay treatment.
2. Medication should be given to cats according to a set schedule. Don't combine two missed doses together, as this puts a significant burden on the cat's body and can have serious consequences. Most medications are prescribed based on the cat's weight; haphazardly combining medications can increase the burden on the cat and even cause poisoning.
3. Extreme caution must be exercised when using medication. It's crucial to understand which medications are safe for cats and which are not. Many cats have died from kidney failure due to indiscriminate use of medications; this is a serious concern. Never administer medication to your cat blindly, and do not base your feeding decisions on your own subjective judgment.
4. When administering oral doxycycline tablets, avoid simply giving your cat a dry tablet. Dry tablets stuck in the esophagus can damage the esophageal lining, leading to esophagitis and, in severe cases, esophageal stricture and serious reflux. It's best to administer the tablet in a capsule and then give it to your cat with water. If you must give only dry tablets, ensure they drink plenty of water (at least 5ml) to ensure the tablet enters the stomach! 
Tips for giving medicine to cats:
1. Quickly put it into the cat's mouth.
There's no secret to this method, just one word: speed! If the cat knows you're feeding it medicine, it will definitely run away or resist. So we need to put the medicine in its mouth with lightning speed, so it doesn't know what it's eating.
Specific steps: Pinch the cat's upper jaw with one hand, and then pinch its lower jaw with the other. As soon as the cat opens its mouth, immediately feed it the pill, then close its mouth. You can release it once you feel it swallowing. If the cat resists, you can wrap it in a small towel to restrict its movement.
2. Mix the medication into the cat's food.
This method is generally suitable for liquid, capsule, or tablet medications. When preparing your cat's food or canned food, mix the powdered medication into it, or place sugar-coated tablets directly into the food so your cat will ingest it without realizing it. However, this method carries some risk; if your cat is too clever, it might pick out the tablet or refuse to eat it.
3. Administer medication using a syringe.
For liquid medications or medications that need to be dissolved in water, a syringe can be used. Before administering the medication, stir it thoroughly and then draw it up with the syringe.
When administering medication, be sure to hold the kitten still, supporting its head with one hand and using the other to hold the syringe. Insert the syringe between the kitten's teeth, avoiding direct contact with its throat to prevent choking. Inject slowly or allow the kitten to lick the medication. Remember to offer water while administering medication to ensure the kitten fully ingests the pills or powder.
