Four things to know about cat paws
1. Basic Knowledge
A cat has five claws on each of its two front paws and four claws on each of its two hind paws. The fifth claw on the front paw is slightly higher than the other four claws and is called a dewclaw. The dewclaw can be thought of as analogous to a human thumb.
Claws are made of keratin, the main protein that makes up the skin, epidermis, hair follicles, and is also found in human nails.
2. Cat claws can purify water.
Cats drink water differently than dogs. Dogs tend to gulp down water, while cats prefer to dip their paws in the water and drink slowly and deliberately. This is because they originally lived in the desert and are accustomed to using their paws to filter out mud and impurities from the water before drinking it. 
3. Unique fingerprints
Not only do humans have unique fingerprints, but cats do too. If cat lovers have some free time, they can try registering an account using their cat's fingerprint and unlocking it with its paw.
4. Extending and retracting
The claws can extend and retract freely, secured by small ligaments attached to the toe bands. The rapid extension and retraction of these ligaments allows the claws to extend and retract freely. When the claw needs to be extended, the ligaments suddenly exert force, and the claw instantly "splashes out."
