Characteristics of the American Wirehair cat:
1. Personality Traits. American Wirehair cats are gentle, lively, intelligent, curious, and easy to get along with. They can adapt to new environments quickly and make new friends easily.
2. Physical Characteristics. The American Wirehair cat has an oval-shaped head, moderately sized, rounded ears, and large, round eyes. Its limbs are of moderate length, with large, round paws that facilitate running. Its tail is of moderate length and will stand erect immediately when it is about to attack. 
3. Coat Characteristics. The American Wirehair has a short, very dense, and evenly distributed coat. Its rough, stiff texture is a major characteristic. The coat has two layers: the undercoat consists of tightly packed individual hairs with the tips curled, like permed hair; the outer protective coat is also curly and very stiff.
4. Coat color characteristics. The coat colors of American Wirehair cats include black, white, tabby, chocolate, and lilac.
5. Physical Characteristics. The American Wirehair is a small to medium-sized cat with a well-proportioned, slender yet robust physique and highly muscular build. Male American Wirehairs are generally larger than females.
