How many owners does a cat recognize in its lifetime?
A cat will never recognize its owner throughout its life.
In a cat's world, what they call their owner is not their master. To them, the owner who feeds them is an equal. If you treat your cat well, it will treat you as a friend or family member, but it will never treat you as its owner! 
Cats don't have a sense of hierarchy. They value freedom, enjoy being alone, and like to blend into nature. They live with humans largely for survival. If they feel they can no longer live with humans, they will leave without hesitation to pursue the life they desire.
The bond between cats and humans is very special. No matter how clingy a cat is, it is still very devoted to its owner. When a cat encounters danger or gets lost, its first priority is to ensure its safety. If it doesn't want to be a stray anymore, it will find itself a home.
