Causes of sudden convulsions in cats
1. Startle reflex: When cats enter deep sleep, they also dream. Sudden twitching at this time is usually a startle reflex. They will immediately fall back asleep and it has no effect. Owners do not need to worry too much.
2. Caused by parasites: Cats with severe parasite infections may experience convulsions not only during sleep but also when awake. In this case, the owner should take the cat for testing to determine the type of parasite. Regular internal and external deworming should be performed to prevent infection.
3. Calcium deficiency: Growing cats require more calcium, and insufficient calcium intake can cause muscle spasms, convulsions, and other symptoms. Older cats also need calcium supplementation due to changes in bone calcium loss.
4. Micronutrient deficiency: You can take your cat to a veterinary hospital for a blood test to see if it is deficient in micronutrients and supplement accordingly.
5. Illness: If a cat suddenly has seizures and exhibits vomiting, coma, or other complications, it may be due to epilepsy, brain injury, or other illnesses. Immediate veterinary intervention and medication are necessary.
