Are orange cats prone to developing wide cheeks? My orange cat has a pointed face and a chubby body. How can I help my cat develop wider cheeks?

Orange tabby cats typically start developing fuller cheeks around six to eight months of age. As the saying goes, nine out of ten orange tabby cats are fat. If a cat owner wants their orange tabby to develop fuller cheeks and have round, chubby faces, they can simply fatten the cat up. Of course, orange tabby cats are naturally big eaters and prone to gaining weight. Therefore, cat owners can focus on proper feeding to help their orange tabby gain weight healthily and naturally, resulting in rounder faces.

Why do orange cats have such pointed faces?

1. Early sterilization is necessary for those with wide cheeks.

Whether a cat will develop fuller cheeks depends not only on genetics but also on postnatal measures. One good option is to spay/neuter male cats around eight months old. Neutering prevents them from going into heat and mating, thus avoiding the weight loss and loss of appetite that often occur during heat cycles, allowing them to gain weight and develop fuller cheeks more easily. Generally, neutering is best done before the first heat cycle, ideally between 6 and 8 months of age. Cat owners should carefully consider this.

II. Nutritious foods help develop cheeks

Besides spaying/neutering, you can feed your cat foods that help develop their cheeks. Cheek development refers to the process where a kitten's cheeks gradually fill out when it's 3-5 months old. This usually happens in male cats; female cats often have larger faces due to weight gain. Kittens are in this cheek development stage between 3-5 months. Once their digestive system can handle raw meat, you can start feeding them raw beef, venison, and other red meats. For cooked food, boiled chicken, beef, eggs, shrimp, and salmon are good choices. You can also prepare "Round and Chubby Kitten" food, which can be mixed into their regular food or fed directly.

3. Maintain sufficient sleep and appropriate exercise.

A healthy body makes cats more likely to develop fuller cheeks. It's recommended to let your cat get about 10 minutes of light exercise before bedtime each day; this not only aids digestion but also promotes better sleep. A stronger metabolism and better sleep naturally lead to better overall health for your cat. With a healthy and nutritious diet and a robust body, your cat will soon develop fuller cheeks.
