Cats are by no means simple creatures. Although we are sometimes captivated by their clear, watery eyes and adorable appearance, if you really think that your cat's only remarkable ability is to sleep, then you are sorely mistaken! Every living thing has its innate characteristics and abilities, and cats should be no exception.
Characteristics of a cat's physical structure
Purebred cats have bred countless new breeds through interbreeding, and people are always amazed by the different characteristics exhibited by these new offspring. However, they still retain the following basic characteristics of cats.
1. Cats have thirty sharp teeth (while dogs have forty-two).
2. Cats' eyes have a reflective layer that amplifies incident light, giving them up to six times the visual acuity of humans in dim light. Both cats and dogs have a nictitating membrane, known as the third eyelid, which is crucial for protecting their eyes.
3. Cats have 32 tiny muscles in their ears, while humans only have 12. This makes cat ears more flexible, helping them pinpoint the location of prey extremely quickly, and even detect faint audio frequencies inaudible to humans. In addition, cat ears are crucial for maintaining a cat's balance.
4. Cats are very careful to protect their front paws. With sharp claws, they can climb happily, and of course, these are also their most effective weapons against enemies.
5. A cat's whiskers are actually an important part of its sense of touch. These whiskers belong to neurons and can provide them with information about the environment, helping them to determine whether it is safe.
Characteristics of cats' living habits
1. Dislikes water
Cats are originally land animals, so they hate water and getting wet in the rain. If you bathe them from a young age, there won't be any problems, but they will keep licking their fur until their bodies are dry. They even dislike getting their paws wet, so cats absolutely hate water.
2. One cannot feel secure without having their own sphere of influence.
Cats like to mark their territories. A territory is a safe place where food is guaranteed. Domestic cats don't need to hunt for food, but they still establish their own territories centered around their home and patrol those areas daily. Male cats will urinate on people's belongings and leave their scent everywhere; these are all ways of protecting their territory.
3. Occasionally runs away from home.
Cats occasionally run away from home. They will run away whenever they are unhappy with their living environment. There are many reasons why they might be unhappy, such as the arrival of a new pet or moving house.
Although they will return home in 1 to 2 weeks, it is still important to create a comfortable living environment for them.
4. Dislike changes in life
A cat's lifestyle is very monotonous. However, for a cat, it is happy.
A cat feels more secure when its daily life follows a fixed pattern. Therefore, it's best to avoid suddenly letting a kitten ride in a car or taking it out for walks once it's grown up.
5. Likes to snore
One of the unique characteristics of cats is their purring sound. This sound was once thought to originate from their throats, but it has now been proven to be caused by the vibration of the wall of a large blood vessel in the chest cavity. This vibration is transmitted to the upper respiratory tract, producing the purring sound. Cats begin making this sound from a very young age, and they generally prefer to make it when they are comfortable, safe, or asleep, but there are also rare instances when they feel fear or discomfort.
Cat's personality traits
1. Clever and quick-witted:
Cats are highly gifted and intelligent animals. Anatomically, cats possess the typical brain hemispheres of intelligent creatures, meaning their cerebral cortex is abundant and well-developed. A kitten's brain is not fully developed at birth, but it is generally mature by five months of age. Normal brain development in kittens depends on sensory stimulation provided by their mother and humans. Living alone and insufficient nutrition can hinder the development and maturation of a kitten's brain and intelligence.
2. You won't feel lonely.
If you have several cats, there will always be cats that don't get along with the others. However, cats are inherently solitary animals, and even within a parent-child relationship, kittens often don't want to stay with their mother after they grow up. Therefore, a cat that appears to be all alone is actually not lonely.
Other features
1. For cats, the texture of food is even more important than its taste, no less so than their pickiness about its smell. If your cat has never licked you, it's probably because, in their eyes, you're as rough as sandpaper. Although a cat's tongue is rough, it's almost perfectly functional, not only used for eating but also for cleaning.
2. Cats like to rub against each other and scratch each other; this is their unique way of communicating.
3. Almost 75% of cats have a strong reaction to catnip; they are naturally attracted to this plant.
4. Cats can travel at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour.
