Many new cat owners are unsure what cat supplies to prepare for their newly arrived kittens. There are many cat supplies on the market, but which ones are essential for a newly arrived kitten? The PetCat.com editor will give you a brief introduction; if you are a new owner, you can refer to this guide.
1. Tableware: Stable bottom, easy to clean
Choose a food bowl that is slightly deeper and heavier, with a stable base. Some cats like to hold the edge of the bowl with their front paws while eating, so if the bowl is too light, food will spill. Prepare two bowls, one for eating and one for drinking. Food bowls are made of plastic, stainless steel, ceramic, etc., so the type doesn't matter, as long as it's easy to clean. Some food bowls have a timed opening mechanism for feeding.
II. Cat Litter Box
Plastic litter boxes with a shovel sold in the market are the best. For kittens, choose one that isn't too deep; for adult cats, choose a larger one. The litter inside comes in washable and reusable varieties and paper-based types; choose the type that solidifies after peeing. Simply discard the ball-like solidified portion; it's very easy, and these can be bought cheaply at pet stores.
3. Cat carrier: Choose a sturdy, well-ventilated carrier.
These cat carriers are used when taking cats to the vet or out for walks. Some people use corrugated cardboard boxes instead, but the kind sold in the market where you can see inside is better. Cat carriers are mostly made of plastic or rattan, and there are three sizes to choose from. When choosing a carrier, the main considerations are whether it is lightweight and sturdy. If the carrier itself is very heavy, it will be difficult to move. After buying the carrier, try lifting it from time to time; it will be very convenient to use in an emergency.
IV. Grinding claws: Besides those sold in the market, you can also make your own.
Commercially available scratchers are typically made of corrugated cardboard or blanket fabric and resemble washboards. Corrugated cardboard scratchers, especially those with plastic lids, are generally cheaper because you can easily replace the cardboard if it gets damaged. However, compared to blanket fabric scratchers, they tend to produce more grime. You can also make your own scratchers by attaching fish cake board to the cat's enclosure and then covering it with a cloth your cat likes.
