Dog owners know that dogs absolutely need to be walked; otherwise, they're prone to obesity, poor coat condition, and even depression. But we rarely see cats being walked. Does this mean cats don't need to be walked, or do they simply dislike being walked?

Just like dogs, cats need plenty of exercise every day. However, unlike dogs, although both are companion animals, cats don't seem to have completely lost their wild instincts. Therefore, they prefer to roam alone rather than be led around. So, many people excitedly buy leashes for their cats, only to find that the cats refuse to walk when they put them on.

Secondly, many domesticated cats have been brought home by their owners since they were kittens. Cats are relatively sensitive animals, and if you suddenly take them out, many things can frighten them, causing them to hide and become unreachable by their owners. Therefore, to avoid this situation, many owners have given up taking their cats out.

Actually, owners don't need to worry. Recent scientific research shows that even without deliberately taking cats for walks, it won't affect their healthy growth. If your cat is satisfied with staying at home, then just keep it that way. This is because cats and dogs move in different directions. Dogs need lateral movement and enjoy running and playing in open spaces, while cats move vertically and like to jump upright. Therefore, cats don't need special walks; a range of movement with a height difference is sufficient.

However, it's not that you can't "walk your cat." When you first take your cat for a walk, choose roads with few people and cars to ensure safety. Then, hold your cat in your arms and try to let it get used to its surroundings. Once it's less scared, you can try putting it on the ground and gradually let it adapt to the outside environment.
