Since becoming a pet owner, I've had to use my wits and courage to do many things, and "snatching food from the tiger's mouth" is a daily occurrence.
What's even more despicable is:
When you're preparing a delicious meal, your master comes over and takes a sniff.
It started suddenly—
This strangely familiar action made the pet owner question their existence:
Covering the spread of scent
The food may have had a smell that made the cat uneasy, and it instinctively tried to bury it.
When surviving in the wild, cats will try to quickly mask certain strong scents in order to protect themselves and avoid attracting predators to the area.
This is similar to why cats bury their poop :)
But please don't misunderstand, cats don't only react this way to things that smell bad.
Different cats have different preferences and dislikes regarding the smell of human food.
Resistance to food changes
Perhaps they don't like the taste of the new food, or the location of the bowl.
This sometimes happens after you've given your cat new food or changed the location where you usually put the food.
Loss of appetite due to illness
When cats lose their appetite due to certain illnesses, they may also start to cover up their food.
If your cat suddenly starts exhibiting this behavior without any changes in its environment or diet, and is accompanied by symptoms such as decreased appetite and weight loss, please take it to the vet for further examination.
Food storage behavior
Some people have noticed that their cats were eating well at first, but then suddenly started scratching at the food halfway through.
This might actually be a hint that they've eaten a little too much.
When faced with food that cannot be finished in one sitting, some cats may instinctively bury it in an attempt to hide it.
If this happens, you can reduce the amount of food you give your cat each time.
Behavioral scientists speculate that this may be related to the food storage behavior of felines, many of which live in the wild.
While most cats will just make a show of scratching at the food a couple of times and then walk away dismissively, some more diligent kittens will actually find tissues, blankets, or mats to carefully cover the food.
This master is also very aware of potential dangers!
