It's recommended to keep one male and one female cat when raising two, but this requires more time and money. Keeping a male and female cat together will prevent fighting and lead to a more harmonious relationship. However, owners need to have the cats spayed/neutered in a timely manner to prevent the male cat from harming the female cat during heat. This also helps prevent the two cats from overbreeding and producing many kittens, which can cause problems for the owner.

When keeping two cats, regardless of gender, owners need to treat them equally and not neglect either one. Neglecting either cat can cause the neglected cat to become depressed and develop other illnesses.
