Cats should not eat chives. Chives contain components that damage red blood cells in cats, causing anemia, hemoglobinuria, jaundice, and other diseases. Excessive consumption can even lead to death in cats. Eating chives causes red blood cells in cats to oxidize, making them more fragile and severely impacting their health, leading to symptoms such as anemia, diarrhea, hematuria, and vomiting.

Furthermore, chives can irritate a cat's gastrointestinal tract, causing gastrointestinal diseases such as diarrhea and loose stools. Therefore, owners should not force-feed chives to their cats out of curiosity or for fun. Besides chives, scallions, ginger, garlic, and onions should also be avoided. It's best to feed cat-specific food or cat grass, and not to use chives as a substitute.
