The main way to distinguish between male and female cats is through their genitals. Male cats have a penis and testicles, while female cats primarily have a vagina. If the anus is two or three fingers' width away from the genitals and is shaped like a colon, it is likely a male cat. If the distance between the anus and genitals is closer, about one or two fingers' width, and resembles an inverted exclamation mark, it is usually a female cat.
