Cats dream, and like humans, their sleep is divided into two stages—rapid eye movement (REM) sleep (dreaming occurs during rapid eye movement) and non-rapid eye movement (deep sleep). If you see your cat's legs twitching, its whiskers moving, and its eyeballs moving slightly under its closed eyelids, then your cat is in the REM sleep stage.
How long do cats sleep each day?
Cats sleep for about 14 hours a day, meaning they spend nearly two-thirds of their time sleeping. During this 14-hour sleep period, cats alternate between two sleep states: REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep and non-REM sleep. When a cat is in deep sleep (REM sleep), it won't wake up even if you lift its tail or pull its belly. However, when it's in light sleep (REM sleep), its body is asleep while its mind is alert. For cats, non-REM sleep lasts about 6-7 minutes, while REM sleep lasts about 30-60 minutes.
