In Taoist thought, cats are considered the embodiment of deities, especially in ancient China, where they were regarded as auspicious deities and used to ward off evil spirits. In folk beliefs, the cat's benevolent nature is believed to help people resist evil spirits and protect their homes. Therefore, cats are often seen in temples dedicated to the Earth God, the God of Wealth, and Guanyin Bodhisattva; they are worshipped and become indispensable guardian deities in these temples.

Furthermore, cats hold a certain status in Buddhism. According to the Lotus Sutra, cats are considered guardians of wealth, helping people accumulate riches. Therefore, people often offer cats in temples and homes to pray for wealth and well-being. The reason cats are placed on offering tables is related to their spirituality; thus, treating life kindly is accumulating blessings for oneself!
