What do I need to prepare for cat transport?
The procedures for shipping a cat include vaccination, preparing a pet carrier, obtaining a quarantine certificate, registration, and pickup, as follows:
1. Get vaccinated
Because there are many cats, dogs, and other animals in the cargo hold during air transport, some of which may carry viruses, vaccination can effectively prevent infection. It's best to get vaccinated a month in advance, not just a few days before departure, as the cat's immunity is relatively low for a short period after vaccination.
2. Prepare an airline-approved container.
Pet owners can buy special plastic airline crates for their cats, which are better in terms of support, pressure resistance, and ventilation, and also provide more privacy for the cat.
3. Quarantine Certificate
A quarantine certificate is required before air transport, and obtaining this certificate requires proof of rabies vaccination. Therefore, it is essential to get the rabies vaccine at a reputable hospital before applying for the quarantine certificate. Furthermore, the quarantine bureau can only issue the certificate 21 days after the rabies vaccination, and the certificate is only valid for 5 days after issuance. Therefore, you must plan your flight schedule and vaccination time accordingly.
4. Boarding
Before departure, put the cat in an airline-approved carrier and reinforce it with tape. It is best to arrive at the airport cargo area three hours in advance to complete the procedures such as weighing, payment, security check, and picking up the packing slip.
5. Extraction
Upon arrival at the destination, pet owners can go to the baggage claim area to retrieve their cats. For details, please ask the staff.
