Cats have better hearing than dogs. Dogs can hear frequencies up to 380,000 Hz, but cannot distinguish between high and low frequencies; cats, on the other hand, can hear frequencies above 50,000 to 60,000 Hz and can pinpoint the location of sounds. Therefore, when a mouse emits ultrasonic waves above 20,000 Hz, a cat can hear it even from 20 meters away. Furthermore, while humans can locate the source of a sound by its time difference and intensity, this method introduces a 4.2-degree error. For cats, however, the error range is only 0.5 degrees.
What is the range of a cat's hearing in meters?
1. A cat's hearing range is mainly determined by the frequency of the sound. The human hearing range is generally 20-20,000 Hz, while a cat's hearing range can reach 60-65,000 Hz, which is about three times that of a human. Cats are also more sensitive to high-frequency sounds.
2. Cats have very sensitive ears that can quickly detect sounds and can flexibly rotate their ears to determine the direction of the sound.
