The function of a cat's paw pads:
1. It functions as a shock absorber.
A cat's paw pads are actually a collection of fat and a large number of elastic fibers. They are distributed in the palms and between the toes of a cat. When a cat falls from a height, the thick paw pads can act as shock absorbers.
2. It functions as a radiator.
A cat's paw pads contain sweat glands. When a cat feels hot and needs to sweat, it will dissipate heat through its paw pads, which is why they sometimes feel damp, especially in summer. The only place on a cat's body with sweat glands is its paw pads. In hot weather, cats rely solely on their paw pads to dissipate heat and sweat, so the paw pads are essentially the cat's radiators. 
3. It functions as a silencer.
The paw pads of a cat's foot make very little noise when it walks, giving it a significant advantage when hunting and making it less likely to be detected by prey or enemies. Cats walk almost silently, thanks to the paw pads. This gives them a major advantage in the wild, allowing them to seize the initiative in attacks. This instinctive instinct has been passed down through their genes to this day.
4. It functions as an anti-slip mat.
A cat's paw pads may look smooth, but they can sweat when a cat is highly focused, making it less likely for the cat to slip during a run.
5. It has the function of a sensor.
The thick paw pads of a cat are actually filled with highly sensitive nerves, allowing it to sense even the slightest vibrations in the ground. This evolutionary ability is, of course, related to hunting. Cats use them to detect the activity of mice in underground burrows. Deaf cats have even more receptors in their paw pads, enabling them to hear more through the receptors in their paws.
6. It has the function of three-dimensional perception.
Cats often use their paw pads to sense the nature, size, shape, and distance of unfamiliar objects. It's common to see a cat stretch out one paw, gently pat an object, then press it firmly against its skin, and finally sniff it to examine it. Paw pads can also sense vibrations and even hear sounds like ears; this is why cats are particularly afraid of the vibrations in their paw pads.
