Why is my cat suddenly urinating everywhere? How can I fix it?
Cats may urinate everywhere for a variety of reasons, some of the most common of which include:
1. Marking Behavior: Cats may mark specific areas with urine to indicate territory or attract mates. This is usually for socialization or when they are in heat. I was devastated when my cat was in heat and urinated everywhere! But he was only five months old, and I thought he might be too young, so I asked the vet. The vet said to get him neutered right away, haha! That very night, I took him to the vet for the better surgery. Neutering a male cat is super quick, only ten minutes! I took off his collar after a day of recovery, and he hasn't urinated everywhere since. If you're going to breed your cat, definitely get him neutered early; it's good for both you and your feline friend!
2. Incompatible Litter Box: If the litter box is dirty, in an unsuitable location, or the cat doesn't like using it, they may choose to urinate elsewhere. Multi-cat households should have at least 2+1 litter boxes, otherwise, they will urinate everywhere. If you only have one cat, I recommend a large one for easy access. I recommend the one I use at home; it's practically litter-free and very convenient!
3. Stress and Anxiety: Cats may urinate due to stress, anxiety, or changes in environment. This could be caused by a new environment, a new family member joining the household, or other factors that cause distress. When I moved to my new home, my cat was very uncomfortable and urinated on my sofa once. My solution was to buy a large cage and let them get used to the smell for three days. They were fine after that. This method works for most cats; a cat expert taught me this, haha.
4. Health Issues: Certain health problems, such as urinary tract infections and stones, can cause cats to urinate frequently or in inappropriate places. Some cats may also experience acute urinary retention due to stress, frequently trying to urinate but unable to, or only urinating a single drop. In such cases, it's crucial to take them to the vet immediately, as it can be life-threatening. My colleague's cat suffered from urinary retention and didn't receive timely treatment, ultimately developing serious kidney problems.

6. Veterinary Examination: If the above measures are ineffective, or if the cat's urination problem persists, it is best to consult a veterinarian. They can perform a health check, rule out any health problems, and provide more specific solutions.
