Must-read for first-time cat owners: What to do about ear mites in cats?
Cats are prone to developing symptoms of otitis externa.
Itching, pain, unilateral ear shaking, odor, red rash, and ear discharge.
Common ear canal pathogens
Staphylococcus, Pseudomonas, Malassezia.
How to use ear drops
Gently lift your pet's ear, insert it into the ear canal, and drop in 2-3 drops.
Gently massage the earlobe to allow the liquid to fully contact the ear canal.
It can also be used with cotton balls to wipe the cochlea.
Do not insert cotton swabs deep into the ear canal, as this will push the secretions deeper and may damage the cat's eardrum during cleaning.
Be mindful of the pressure applied throughout the process and move gently. If the cat shows any signs of discomfort, remember to stop immediately and comfort it.
You can use treats or toys to attract your cat's attention while using ear drops, and reward your cat with treats afterwards, which will help your cat cooperate.
Why do cat ears need special treatment?
Cats' ears are L-shaped, which makes them difficult to clean. Earwax accumulates in the ear canal, where microorganisms thrive and are difficult to clean using conventional methods.
Therefore, it is necessary to clean your cat's ear canals regularly to prevent earwax buildup. It is not recommended to clean your cat's ear canals with water; instead, use pet-specific ear drops.
