Why does pica occur?
1. Feeling insecure about leaving their mother too early
The act of kittens sucking on objects is called wool-sucking. Because they are weaned early and separated from their mothers, kittens seek comfort by sucking on wool, socks, the tails or ears of other kittens, shoelaces, etc. This behavior usually fades as they grow, but they may continue it under stressful circumstances, relying on vague memories. If they ingest these substances after sucking, it is called pica (pica).
2. Deficiency of trace elements and nutrients in the body
When cats lack certain trace elements and nutrients, they may eat unusual foods. Some veterinarians believe that anemia can cause cats to eat litter. Therefore, regular checkups are important! You can also give your cat pet trace element supplements. 
3. Lack of care and companionship from the owner
If the owner is busy with work and neglects the cat, or if the environment is stressful, depression and anxiety may cause them to eat strange things to vent their dissatisfaction.
4. High energy but lack of outlets
Cats may chew on things to release their energy if it's not properly released. Spend more time playing with them and buy them some chew toys.
Cats may also have a genetic component to pica; Siamese and Burmese cats are breeds more prone to this condition.
Countermeasures against pica
First, manage your cat's environment. Hide any items they might eat (or spray them with a scent they dislike) and try to keep them within your sight as much as possible. Adjust their diet and pay attention to their nutrition. Spend plenty of time playing with your cat and gently soothe them with soft words, creating a safe and warm environment for them.
