Tips for protecting your cat's eyes
Some cats, especially Persian cats, have easily blocked nasolacrimal ducts, leading to tear stains. Therefore, eye care is extremely important for these cats. Cleaning tear stains is a daily task for owners, but do you know how to properly care for your cat's eyes?
Do not use human eye drops on your cat. Cats often have discharge in their eyes, which, if left untreated, can cause "tear ducts" around the eyes and occasionally even change their fur color. Therefore, it's important to clean them regularly. Gently dab the discharge with a cotton ball or gauze soaked in warm water to soften it, then gently wipe it away with a wrung-out cotton ball. Cats have very sensitive eyes; never use human eye drops on them just because they have eye discharge.
In addition, boric acid solution may cause inflammation, so caution must be exercised when using it. Some breeds, like Persian cats, have watery eyes, making the area around their eyes very easy to get dirty. However, if in addition to eye discharge there are symptoms such as fever, loss of appetite, and lethargy, then the cat is probably sick and must be taken to the vet immediately.
In addition, if there is excessive eye discharge, making it almost impossible to open the eyes, it is still advisable to go to the hospital.
