Can cats transmit plague?
If a cat is infected with plague, it can spread the disease. Plague can be transmitted through droplets, so contact with a sick cat can lead to infection via droplets; alternatively, fleas from the cat can jump onto you and transmit the disease. However, normal contact is safe.

How to prevent plague
When handling healthy, non-domestic cats, humans should wear masks to prevent droplet transmission, wear gloves, spray themselves with flea repellent beforehand, and wash and disinfect their hands promptly after contact. Avoid contact with people or animals who have had plague; if accidental contact occurs, administer preventative medication. Cats should be dewormed regularly, and raw meat should not be fed to them. Regularly clean and disinfect your home, and perform regular rodent control.
