1. If a kitten doesn't learn to use the litter box from other cats, usually its mother, it hasn't reinforced this behavior through imitation. Although it may retain the instinct to use sand as a toilet, it's not firmly established.
2. Male cats that develop territoriality around 7 months old, or male cats in heat, tend to defecate in conspicuous places as a way to distinguish themselves.
3. The cat is using this method to alert its owner that it is sick. Observe its feces for any abnormalities, such as blood or thin, noodle-like stools.
4. If the litter box isn't cleaned in time, the cat will think it's too dirty and won't want to go in.
5. A cat's relaxed state can also lead to unintentional leakage of feces.
