Why do British Shorthair cats have watery eyes?
Excessive internal heat is the most common cause of watery eyes in British Shorthairs. If a cat has severe internal heat, it can lead to inflammation in its eyes, resulting in constant tearing. Internal heat is a common condition, and simply adjusting its diet is usually sufficient; reduce the amount of oily and salty food fed to the British Shorthair.
In daily life, if a foreign object gets into a British Shorthair's eye while playing, it will irritate the eye. This will cause the British Shorthair to tear up and have increased discharge. Therefore, cat owners should check their British Shorthair's eyes regularly.
If a British Shorthair cat's eyes are infected, it will naturally produce excessive tears due to discomfort. This could be due to bacterial infection or ectropion (outward turning of the third eyelid). If you cannot resolve the issue yourself, you should take your cat to a veterinary clinic for treatment as soon as possible.
