Generally, cats can be removed from their collars one hour after external parasite treatment, but this may vary depending on the circumstances.
If you choose spot treatment or spray for external parasite control, it is recommended to wear the collar for 1 hour before removing it. If you choose oral medication for external parasite control, then you do not need to wear the collar, and there is no time to remove it.
How to use external parasite drops for cats
1. Apply the drops to the back of the cat's neck, near the shoulder blades. After parting the fur to expose the skin, apply the drops directly to the skin.
2. Do not release the medication immediately after applying it. The medication works by penetrating the sebaceous glands to repel insects throughout the body. Applying it to the fur will not be effective. Allow the medication to slowly seep into the skin before closing the fur.
3. Spot-on medication should not be applied to the whole body. It should be applied to several points along the spine on the cat's back using the method described above.
4. If you are worried that your cat will lick the medication, you can use an Elizabethan collar to restrain your cat for about an hour. To use the external parasite spray for cats, hold the cat by the back of its neck and spray its entire body, making sure to cover its face and tail completely. To avoid spraying the medication directly on its face, you can spray the medication onto a soft cloth and then gently apply it to the cat's face. You can also have your cat wear an Elizabethan collar for an hour, removing it only after it has been fully absorbed.
