The Egyptian Mau is one of the earliest breeds of modern domestic cats. Because they differ significantly from other modern domestic cats in physical structure, growth, and behavior, it is evident that they are ancient, or at least that the breed has very distinctive habits. Egyptian Mau cats are very sensitive to temperature and prefer warm environments. They are also sensitive to drugs and anesthetics.
Petcat.com reminds everyone that the gestation period for cats is relatively long, about 73 days, while the gestation period for most cats is 65-67 days, although Siamese cats may have a gestation period that is one or two days longer.
Egyptian Mau cats are very intelligent and love to be close to responsible and loving owners. Many owners of these cats have said that when they come home after a long day at work, they find their cats sitting eagerly waiting for them at the door.
Although many veterinarians and animal caregivers disagree, Egyptian Mau cats are well-suited to outdoor life. They are agile, quick, and naturally intelligent. As long as they are carefully taken outdoors from kittenhood, they will generally learn to avoid all outdoor dangers.
Egyptian Mau cats, especially purebreds, are not very friendly towards other breeds of unfamiliar cats. They will attack intruding cats very aggressively and will also be extremely wary of unfamiliar humans. Therefore, Egyptian Mau cats are not suitable for living in apartments or homes with frequent guests.
