The reason why cats cannot taste sweetness is mainly due to the absence of gene segments in their bodies that form sweet taste receptors, which makes cats insensitive to sweetness or even unable to taste it.
Because of a missing gene segment in the sweet taste receptor, cats cannot digest high-sugar foods. Therefore, eating too many sweets can lead to fat accumulation and diseases such as kidney failure in cats.
