In an epidemiological survey of Helicobacter pylori in cats, the results indicated a carrier rate of 50% and a 99% similarity in gene sequence with Helicobacter pylori in humans.

Although Helicobacter pylori infection in humans is associated with gastritis, peptic ulcers, and a higher incidence of gastric tumors, no direct, incidental relationship between Helicobacter pylori infection and gastrointestinal diseases has been established in cats.
