Cats in heat make sounds like a baby crying; this is a normal physiological response and courtship behavior. Male and female cats behave differently when in heat, but they both use specific sounds and behaviors to attract mates.

In addition to vocalizing, female cats in heat will exhibit behaviors such as raising their tails, being willing to approach male cats, and enjoying being petted. Male cats in heat will urinate frequently, and their urine will have a stronger odor than usual to attract the attention of female cats. Furthermore, male cats may also exhibit decreased appetite, hyperactivity, indiscriminate urination, and attempts to escape.
