It's not normal for a 40-day-old kitten not to defecate. Normally, a kitten defecates 1-2 times a day, or once every two days.
A kitten's defecation frequency is related to its food, eating habits, and intestinal absorption and digestion. If a kitten has not defecated for more than three days, it may be constipated.
