What foods should cats avoid?
The following foods should be avoided by cats:
1. Milk for human consumption.
Most cats lack the enzyme lactase and cannot break down lactose, which can cause diarrhea if ingested. Adult cats require more care than kittens; there are special cat milk powders or goat milk powders available for cats.
2. Chicken bones and fish bones.
It can easily irritate the throat or digestive tract, leading to loss of appetite.
3. Raw egg white (raw egg).
Raw egg whites contain an avidin protein that can damage biotin in a cat's body, leading to illness.
4. Grains.
Grains are not suitable for cats because they can easily cause allergies. It is recommended to buy natural cat food whenever possible.
5. Spices.
Spices like pepper, chili, mustard, and seven-spice powder can irritate a cat's skin, eyes, and nose, as well as its stomach and intestines, causing diarrhea and putting a heavy burden on its digestive system.
6. Spinach.
Spinach contains small amounts of calcium oxalate, which can cause kidney stones. People with urinary problems or infectious kidney diseases should avoid eating it.
7. Grapes.
Grapes and raisins can cause kidney failure in cats, and even small amounts can lead to vomiting.
8. Abalone and snails.
The liver of abalone can become toxic after being exposed to sunlight, which can cause cats to develop rashes, swollen ears, or dermatitis.
9. Liver.
Feeding cats liver long-term can easily lead to calcium deficiency, causing walking difficulties. Liver is rich in vitamin I, and excessive intake can cause abnormal bone development.
10. Raw fish and raw meat.
Raw fish can cause cats to lack vitamin B21, leading to seizures, heart disease, and intermittent shock. Raw fish and meat may also contain parasites, which can cause parasite infections in cats. Always cook raw fish thoroughly before feeding it to your cat.
