Reasons for cats losing teeth:
1. Teething. Kittens usually start teething around 2 weeks after birth, and all 26 teeth are in by about 1 month. Their baby teeth fall out around 3 months old, and by 5-6 months, all 30 new teeth have grown in. Teething is generally completed between 6 and 8 months of age.
2. Aging leads to tooth loss. When cats are 12 to 13 years old, their gums and alveolar bone begin to loosen, making their teeth more prone to falling out.
3. Pathological dental problems. Pathological causes can lead to tooth loss, abscesses at the tooth roots, and tooth pain in cats.
Daily dental care for cats:
1. Regularly brushing your cat's teeth or taking them to the vet for professional cleaning will keep their teeth healthy and shiny. Dental problems in cats can easily affect the teeth, the bones and connective tissue around the gums, and even lead to tooth loss.
2. If your cat has never brushed its teeth, you can apply toothpaste or oral cleaning gel to its teeth. Even if your cat licks its mouth, it will still achieve the same effect as brushing its teeth.
3. When your cat has a thick layer of tartar on its teeth, take it to the vet for a professional teeth cleaning as soon as possible to prevent other oral diseases.
