Like other cats, Himalayan cats are best fed commercial cat food. Of course, owners can also prepare some homemade nutritious meals for their Himalayan cats, such as fish soup, bone broth, or meat porridge. Alternatively, they can mix fruits, vegetables, or beef jerky into their cat food, all of which Himalayan cats enjoy.
What Himalayan cats cannot eat:
1. Avoid feeding cats seafood such as cuttlefish, shrimp, clams, squid, and filefish. These foods contain high levels of thiaminase, which is difficult for cats to digest and can easily trigger allergies.
2. Milk. Cats cannot digest the lactose in milk, so it may upset their stomachs or cause diarrhea. Except for kittens drinking their mother's milk, it is not recommended to give cats milk.
3. Grapes and raisins. Even small amounts of grapes and raisins can make cats sick, and may even cause acute kidney failure. Vomiting may occur within 12 hours of ingestion. Other symptoms may appear within 24 hours, including lethargy, diarrhea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, and decreased urination.
